INTRODUCTION - Women's Groups
EDWON promotes self-reliance., and believes lasting change happens
through empowerment. Nepal’s Dalit women already possess the qualities
necessary to improve their lives, and only need a helping hand.
To date, EDWON has organized over 1,000 women into 43 independent groups,
located in 20 different communities.
EDWON offers training and support, but does not create a relationship
of dependence. Neither do we work as overseers. Once a women’s group has
been created, the women are in charge, and are not accountable to EDWON.
They determine their own rules democratically, and do their own accounting.
EDWON continues to serve the groups as advisor and resource, with an
emphasis on responding to the women’s requests.
